Soares falls in first round at NCAA
TULSA, Okla. — Felipe Soares of the Texas Tech men’s tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-6, 6-0, 7-5 singles decision to No. 2 seed Roberto Cid of South Florida during Wednesday’s Round of 64 at the NCAA Singles Championships.
Soares jumped out to a 2-0 edge to start the third set. He erased a 15-40 deficit with forehand and backhand winners and took advantage of a Cid double fault to earn the early break. However, Cid responded with four of the next five games to snatch a 4-3 advantage.
