Felipe Soares and his roommate, Hugo Dojas weren’t supposed to be here.
They were ranked No. 22 in the country and needed to upset the No. 18, No. 5 and the No. 1 team in order to make the NCAA doubles tournament final.
Soares and Dojas did just that.
The Texas Tech duo defeated Michigan State’s Harry Jadun and John Patrick Mullane in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) Sunday afternoon en route to the program’s second national championship appearance in the last four years.
